Detail : John's tenth solo single.
In 1975 this was John's first U.K. picture sleeve since "Mind Games" in 1973, but the 1980 "re-release" did not come in the same cover. It also proved to be John's last single release for FIVE years.

This release stays with the standard Apple label design.

Following his death in 1980 sales of ALL Beatles recordings increased, and by December 20th there were orders for over 300,000 copies of "Imagine" ... even though it had NOT been re-released or re-promoted in any way !
It therefore on this occasion swept to the top of the U.K. chart.
During this 1981 sales run it passed the platinum status, selling it's millionth copy.

17th March 1986 - The single was re-issued (re-promoted), again with catalogue number R 6009

28th November 1988, E.M.I had yet another sales campaign for this release, although now in the age of format variations it came in 4 different versions, and new catalogue numbers :
R 6199 - Imagine b/w Jealous Guy ... 7" single.
CDR 6199 - Imagine + Jealous Guy + Happy Xmas (War Is Over) ... C.D. single
12R 6199 - Imagine + Jealous Guy + Happy Xmas (War Is Over) ... 12" single
RP 6199 - Imagine b/w Jealous Guy ... 7" picture disc.

13th December 1999 a new CD single version under yet another new catalogue number. The idea was to make it the "Millennium Single", ie, the one at the top of the chart as we passed from 1999 to 2000.
CDR 6534 - Imagine + Happy Xmas (War Is Over) + Give Peace A Chance + Imagine (The Video !)
Unfortunately, it was not to be, and ironically the No.1 slot was taken by the current boy teen band, hot in the U.K., called "Westlife", who topped with "I Had A Dream/Seasons In The Sun" ... their 4th No.1 in a row ... ALL in the same year !
