Detail : Paul's fifty-first single.
Credited to "Paul McCartney".

The third single to be pulled from "Flaming Pie", this was released in exactly the same style as the two previous releases !
There was a 7" picture disc single (seen above), and two different CD's all released the same day.
The A-side was recorded 13th May 1996 and features Paul, Linda, Jeff Lynne and Ringo, and
the B-side (unreleased) was recorded on 10th March 1987 (!), and features Paul with Tim Renwick, Nick Glennie-Smith and Charlie Morgan.
This track was one of those recorded at sessions in 1987 which were produced by Phil Ramone and led to an entire unreleased album (allegedly !).

The first CD version (CDRS 6489) has the same two tracks as the 7", plus 10 more minutes of "Oobu Joobu" (Part 5).
The second CD (CDR 6489) has "Beautiful Night" coupled with another unreleased track, "Same Love", plus another 8 minutes of "Oobu Joobu" (Part 6).

The "Oobu Joobu Part 5" listing is :

  1. And Now

On the rear cover above, Paul says,
"I unearthed this old song for when Ringo was coming, changed a few lyrics and it was really like the old days.
I realised that we hadn't done this for so long, but it was very comfortable, And it was still there".

A promo video is made using the services of director Julian Temple. As it features full-frontal shots of an actress
(Emma Moore) swimming naked in the River Mersey this is soon banned (even by MTV) and Paul is forced to rethink and re-shoot.
The second video includes an unknown London band named "Spud", Ringo plays a night-watchman who
gets annoyed with the noise, but ends up playing drums with them.

The picture disc single was released in a plastic cover with just a cardboard insert as a "sleeve".
The picture of Paul was taken by Linda.
The first CD was available in a "double CD" jewel case, with space to hold the second CD plus the track listing and information of the second one.

21st December 1997 - "Beautiful Night" enters the UK charts at number 25.
That was it's peak position as it quickly plummeted out of the chart. But, after spending four weeks out of the chart, it makes an odd re-appearance right down at no.97.

                                          Chart progression:   25 - 37 - 55 - 71 - 78 .... out four weeks ..... 97 .... out
