Bonus From Paul and Ringo

Or, "Introductions By Ringo" where Ringo introduces just four of the videos.

No. Chapter Title Detail Time
1 Love Me Do Rec: 27/08/1963 - "The Mersey Sound" - Little Theatre, Southport
There were three versions made of this video around 1982
This is a 4th newly-assembled 2015 version using a few different drop-in pieces.
Stereo mix: The original single version and same mix as the 2009 remasters,
5.1 mix: Bass is extracted from the mono version
Rear channels just match the front with added reverb + handclaps.
2:23
2 From Me To You 4th November 1963 from the Royal Variety Show
A newly created video from the TV production for this 2015 issue
Stereo mix: Abrupt start, into a new (not improved) version with added reverb
5.1 mix: Bass is, as you'd expect, just an extraction
Front channels are a fake stereo
Rear channels just match the front with added reverb.
1:53
3 She Loves You 30th October 1963 - Filmed in Stockholm, Sweden
Recorded at Narren-Teatern, Stockholm, for an appearance on the Sveriges Television show "Drop In"
before a live audience in a small theatre in the Grona Lund amusement park.
A newly created video from the TV production for this 2015 issue
Stereo mix: Digitally created stereo image, with added audience handclaps - NOT present on the original recording !
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original mono
             Centre channel isolates the vocals
Front channels are very much like the stereo mix
Rear channels you can here the overdubbed clapping.
FYI .... something to seek out:
After the first two scheduled numbers, they were persuaded by presenter Klas Burling to extend their set to four numbers.
If you can find the complete clip, they played She Loves You/Twist And Shout/I Saw Her Standing There/Long Tall Sally
which is a must-see tremendous absolutely live performance.
2:19
4 I Want To Hold Your Hand Rec: 25/11/1963 - "Late Scene Extra" - Studio 4, Granada TV, Manchester
A newly created video from the TV production for this 2015 issue
Stereo mix: Doesn't seem to sound any different to the 2009 remaster
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original mono
Centre channel tries to isolate the vocals, but the backing track is also heard
Front channels centre the vocals, guitars to the left, drums to the right

2:25
5 Can't Buy Me Love Rec: 28/04/1964 - "Around the Beatles" - Studio 5, Wembley Studios for Rediffusion
A newly created video from the TV production for this 2015 issue
Stereo mix: On this production they were miming to a newly pre-recorded "live take", included here with added audience noises.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original mono
Centre channel Paul's double-tracked vocal, with the instumentation at a lower level.
Front channels sound pretty much like the stereo mix.
Rear channels again is basically the opposite of the centre channel.
2:08
6 A Hard Day's Night Rec: 20/06/1965 - Palais des Sport, Paris - Evening performance
A newly created video from the TV production for this 2015 issue
Stereo mix: As the original mono recording was fine, this is digitally enhanced stereo.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original mono
Centre channel attempts to bring out the vocals
Front channels are the fake stereo mix
Rear channels again basically a fake stereo with added reverb
2:37
7 I Feel Fine Rec: 23/11/1965
Intertel Promos - Studio 3 - Twickenham Film Studios
Version 1:
John and Paul in black roll neck jumpers singing around gym equipment.
Ringo on an exercise bike, George singing into a punchball.
Version 2 can be seen on disc two listed below

Stereo mix: Splits John's double-tracked vocals across the two channels and mixes the backing vocals to stereo
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original mono
Centre channel barely increases the level of the vocals over the instrumentation
Front channels are the placement of the new stereo mix
Rear channels have the instrumention with an echo of the vocal

2:17
8 Eight Days A Week Rec: 15th August 1965
A montage of material from Shea Stadium (where they didn't play Eight Days A Week !)
A new edit made for this set in 2015 by Matthew Longfellow
Stereo mix: No fade-in on either video mix for this video is just bizarre.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track
Centre channel increases the level of the vocals, mixing down the instruments
Front channels are the placement of the new stereo mix
Rear channels have the instrumention mixed up, with vocals mixed down
2:41
9 Ticket To Ride Rec: 23/11/1965
Intertel Promo - Twickenham Film Studios
Ringo standing playing drums, while the others sing and play sitting in director's chairs.

Stereo mix: Sounds the same as the 2009 re-master, except the drums have a bit more oomph and ii has 6 seconds cut from the fade
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track
Centre channel increases the level of the vocals, mixing down the instruments
Front channels are the placement of the new stereo mix
Rear channels have the instrumention mixed up, with vocals mixed down

3:01
10 Help ! Rec: 23/11/1965
Intertel Promo - Twickenham Film Studios
The Beatles sit on a beam, Ringo holding an umbrella

Stereo mix: Backing vocals are brought up in the mix in the intro and split over the two channels.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track
Centre channel increases the level of the vocals, mixing down the instruments
Front channels are the placement of the new stereo mix
Rear channels have the instrumention mixed up, with vocals mixed down

2:17
11 Yesterday Rec: 14/08/1965 - The Ed Sullivan Show - Studio 50, New York City
Ed Sullivan Show recording, broadcast 12th September 1965
Like all previous broadcasts this one was also in black-and-white,
with Ed informing the audience at the end of this show that
from the following week the show would be broadcast in colour !
The Beatles had missed it by just a few days and their monochrome existence was now set in stone in history.

Stereo mix: Reverb has been added to the original show recording and the strings mixed across the soundstage
5.1 mix: Bass channel is dead silent, not surprisingly
Centre channel sounds just like the original mono recording
Front channels have had the reverb added
Rear channels feature the strings, with an echo of the rest of the performance

2:25
12 Day Tripper Rec: 23/11/1965
Intertel Promo (version 2) - Twickenham Film Studios
A straight mimed performance with the Beatles in black turtlenecks

Stereo mix: Seems quite different to the 2009 remaster with added reverb and
the video version is slightly faster and therefore a few seconds shorter !
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track
Centre channel increases the level of the vocals, mixing down the instruments
Front channels are the placement of the new stereo mix
Rear channels have the instrumention mixed up, with vocals mixed down

2:44
13 We Can Work It Out Rec: 23/11/1965
Intertel Promo (Version 2) - Twickenham Film Studios
A straight mimed performance with the Beatles in black turtlenecks

Stereo mix: One of Paul's double-tracked vocals is mixed to centre, the other to the right. Drums on the left.
This mix is also faded a little early making it a couiple of seconds shorter than the "1" c.d.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track
Centre channel increases the level of the vocals, mixing down the instruments
Front channels have one of the lead vocals split into both channels, with the second to the right only.
Rear channels have the entire track, with added reverb, plus a tambourine too high in the mix.

2:12
14 Paperback Writer Rec: 20/05/1966 - Chiswick House, Burlington Lane, London
The original colour promo with brand new inserts creating a new 2015 version

Stereo mix: Vocals mixed to centre, Paul's bass to the right. Drums and most else on the left.
Oddly, Ringo's kick drum is mixed right down and has virtually disappeared, Paul's bass also lacks punch in this mix.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track
Centre channel has the vocals, with the instruments underneath, some missing backing vocals near the end
Front channels are basically just the stereo mix.
Rear channels have the entire track, with added reverb.

2:22
15 Yellow Submarine 2015 creation
A montage of material from the 1968 Yellow Submarine movie
A new edit made for this set in 2015 by Matthew Longfellow

Stereo mix: Ringo's vocal has been taken from the right channel and centred in the stereo image
The backing vocals are nicely split between the two channels.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track
Centre channel is basically mono with the brass and sound effects mixed down a bit.
Front channels are basically just the stereo mix.
Rear channels has instumental backing track + effects, with an echo of the vocals, until the final chorus.

2:37
16 Eleanor Rigby 1968 sequence as seen in the Yellow Submarine movie.

Stereo mix: Much better than the original as this centres the vocals in the stereo image
5.1 mix: Bass is silent.
Centre channel has the vocal mixed right up with the strings in the background
Front channels are basically just the stereo mix.
Rear channels has strings and backing vocals, with the lead vocal heard mixed right down.

2:03
17 Penny Lane Rec: 5/02/1967 & 7/02/1967
Angel Lane, Stratford, London and Knole Park, Sevenoaks, Kent.
Intercut with film of Liverpool's Penny Lane landmarks with the Beatles not being present.
New outtake shots of John have been inserted at 1:03 and 1:53, this makes sense as
in the original solo shots were seen of the others, but strangely, not John.

Stereo mix: An improvement as Paul's vocal has been lifted to a more appropriate level
There are some slight differences to the placement of the instruments.
5.1 mix: Bass is again just an extraction from the original track.
Centre channel also has the vocal mixed up with the basic instrumental track as well as the trumpet solo
Front channels are a bit keyboard heavy with the drums pumped up to be too loud.
Rear channels has the backing track with added reverb, plus an echo of the vocals.

3:02

Saville Theatre, London (which was leased by Brian Epstein)
Directed by Paul McCartney for Apple Films
There are three versions prepared for broadcast, all of which the BBC refused.
The Beatles wearing Sgt.Pepper uniforms, Ringo's drum does not have the name of the band.
During the coda the grass-skirted hula girls appear.
3:23
20 Lady Madonna Rec: 11/02/1968
EMI Studio 3, Abbey Road
The original video promo, fairly redundant as it actually contains footage of The Beatles recording Hey Bulldog
2:27
21 Hey Jude Rec: 04/09/1968

The group did three takes.
Take 1 is presented here uninterrupted.
Only the second half of take 2 is available, from a broadcast in the US on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (where it was edited together with the first half of take 1... this has been removed here to avoid endless duplication and make comparisons easier).
Take 3 is also complete and is the one broadcast in Frost On Sunday.
At least one further short snatch from take 2 is included in the Anthology edit on disc 1, where the redhead in the white dress can be seen being hoisted (or, rather, dragged bodily) up onto the podium.
