Comments:
On 17th December 2013 EMI rather cynically released a compilation of 59 Beatles recordings exclusively through an
online download site called iTunes, allegedly in order to exploit a copyright loophole and prevent the recordings from
legally entering the public domain in Europe at the end of last year.
The official release included 15 studio outtakes and 44 live B.B.C. tracks which are distinct from those released previously
on the albums Live at the BBC (1994) and On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2 (2013).
As well as the BBC performances and studio outtakes there were a couple of demo recordings:
"Bad to Me" - an acoustic guitar duet by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and "I'm in Love", a piano demo by Lennon.
Fairly predictably, the decision to release these tracks only as downloads left a gap in the market for CD and vinyl versions which were
swiftly produced in limited quantities for people who like to collect physical product, and sure enough this example is one of them.
There are other bootleg releases, but this this version comes from the Japanese label Archive Unlimited with extra tracks.
It's rather crafty that they have "revised and expanded" the 59 tracks by adding five pertinent tracks from the BBC sessions
that were left off the itunes release, and four additional demo recordings at the end of disc two.
