In 1976, Capitol had a million dollar Beatles revival campaign. The Beatles albums were advertised on television
in the States and filmclips were shown in record shops. This campaign continued with two tracks being extracted from the
White Album and released as a single. "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da" became the first Beatles single for Capitol NOT to chart in the
American Top 30.
The original single was in a covered numbered sleeve designed to look the White Album cover. I have two copies of this one,
numbered 121109 and 266219, and I presume during the pressing of this release Capitol records had a label change,
as the two above have noticable differences, so I have shown both.
Incidentally low numbered editions will fetch premium prices if re-sold !
Second pressings appeared in 1978 with a purple label.
Third pressings on the black Capitol label were issued in 1983.
A fourth issue occured in 1988 with a smooth edged purple label. |
