Detail : George Harrison's nineteenth official release, and first box set.
Credited to George Harrison

The Dark Horse label was founded by George Harrison in 1974 to allow him time and space to fully express himself as a songwriter and musician. Although it would be two years before his contractual obligations with EMI were fulfilled, in those two years eight albums were released by the label, so Dark Horse was ready for George's arrival.
Between 1976-1992, George recorded six albums for the label, the first four of which had never been officially issued on C.D. in the U.K. and even the other two had never been re-mastered. At last here they all are, initially re-issued as part of this box set put together under the close direction of George Harrison’s family. A sumptuous box set containing five re-mastered c.d.'s, one double SACD in 5.1 re-mastered sound, and one DVD.

The DVD is another fine job from “Abbey Road Interactive”. Contents includes a 10 minute promotional EPK for the box set, 7 promotional videos (including 2 for “Got My Mind Set On You”), 4 performances from “Live In Japan” and 3 clips from “Shanghai Surprise”. A surprise omission is the video for “Blow Away”.

The DVD which is packaged in a 44 page hardback booklet (GHBOOK 1), is set in a pouch within the back cover. The contents of the book include an article by Olivia, an essay by David Fricke of Rolling Stone magazine (both dated November 2003), many photographs, press clippings, comments on the inspiration behind the Dark Horse label, various transparencies and artist drafts for the label.
See full details of the DVD below.

The boxset is housed in a flip top box, similar in size and scope to John's Anthology.
On the whole, original artwork as seen on the albums has been used. Lyrics are included in each booklet plus extras not seen on the albums.
There are some obvious artwork alterations (see “Somewhere In England,”), and also there are more subtle differences i.e. the front cover font on the “George Harrison” CD has been replaced by his signature. Reading through the booklets, there are also a number of spelling mistakes (typos probably).

All-in-all this is a long awaited set that doesn't disappoint !
